Your Questions about Fertility Check

Why do you need to check both of us?
40% of infertility involves men, 40% involves women, and the other 20% is a combination of the two.  Fertility Check offers a semen analysis for men and two blood tests for women to get basic information about your potential for getting pregnant.

How much does this cost?
The Fertility Check program is offered at a special cash price of $99, paid at the first test. The program is designed for patients who have little or no insurance coverage for diagnostic testing. If you have verified insurance coverage and want Midwest Fertility to file for these services, the traditional, full price of the individual tests will be billed to insurance. The $99 fee does not include a new patient consult.

How do I arrange a semen analysis?
A semen analysis is a scheduled appointment made by calling either the Midwest Fertility office in Carmel or in Fort Wayne. Testing is scheduled for Monday through Saturday. In order to get accurate results, men must abstain from ejaculating for 2 – 5 days prior to the scheduled semen analysis. more info on semen analysis

Can I bring in a specimen?
Specimens can be collected at home but we prefer that collection takes place on site, in one of our specially designed private rooms.  If the specimen is collected at home, it must arrive at our lab within 45 minutes.  Special collection condoms are available for collecting by intercourse if masturbation is not an option.

What does the woman have to do?
Two blood tests provide good information about your basic fertility status. The “Day 3” FSH measures ovarian function and correlates to fertility potential. This is your follicle stimulating hormone, and its level increases as your supply of eggs decreases.  Your Estradiol level helps validate the FSH level.  Call us on “Day 1”, which is the first day of full menstrual flow. Please call on Day 1, even if it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.  Your blood tests will be scheduled for two days later at our Carmel or Fort Wayne office.

How do we get our results?
A nurse will call with the results when all three tests are completed.  If a consultation or more detailed explanation is needed, you can schedule one with one of the reproductive endocrinologists at Midwest Fertility.  Your consultation isn’t included in the Fertility Check price.

How long can we rely on these results?
Even with normal test results from Fertility Check, you can see changes in a matter of months. If you are seen in our offices more than 6 months from your Fertility Check, you may be asked to repeat some of the tests. Knowing your Fertility Check numbers can give you peace of mind as you pursue your path to parenthood. We also recommend that anytime you are unable to conceive after six months of unprotected intercourse that you consult with a reproductive endocrinologist.
