Self-Care Tips for Coping with Infertility

Coping with infertility by relying on self-care

Coping with infertility by relying on self-careThe team at our Indianapolis fertility center helps patients with the process of coping with infertility. We understand how important it is to have tools for lowering stress, enhancing health and managing uncomfortable social situations. These tools can help you navigate the journey to parenthood with hope.

Tips for coping with infertility

While many people facing infertility think they just need to suffer through their feelings, there are numerous self-care strategies to support physical, emotional and mental health. By making positive choices for your wellbeing, you can alleviate the strain that can accompany infertility.

Support your physical health. Eating nourishing foods, regularly moving your body and drinking at least eight 12-ounce glasses of water every day can make it easier to manage infertility.

Utilize stress-relieving practices. Another important part of coping with infertility is engaging in activities that nurture your mental health and soothe the stress of fertility challenges. Practices like meditation, journaling and joining a support group can be helpful.

Do things that make you feel good. Instead of filling your free time with to-dos, give yourself permission to spend time engaging in your favorite, light-hearted activities.

Above all, the staff at our Indianapolis fertility center encourages you to honor your needs as often as possible.

Being mindful about social situations

In addition to engaging in physical and mental self-care, it’s important to have tools to help navigate social situations. Putting forethought into these situations can help ensure your social life is a source of comfort, instead of stress.

Choose social engagements carefully. A great way of coping with infertility is only saying yes to social situations you think will lift you up. If an invitation arrives that you feel might land you in a triggering situation, feel free to say no.

Disengage from uncomfortable conversations. Regardless of how careful you are about the social engagements you say yes to, you might still end up in an uncomfortable conversation. If this happens, give yourself permission to gracefully exit. Excusing yourself to the bathroom is always a good strategy.

It’s our hope that patients at our Indianapolis fertility center utilize coping tools that make the path to parenthood a little easier and more enjoyable. Contact us for more information about our fertility services.
