Treatment options for patients using a sperm donor
Patients who need to utilize donor sperm can find high-quality donors at a sperm bank. These donors undergo comprehensive screening that helps ensure they can provide healthy sperm. As the patient searches for the right donor, they’re able to view donor profiles that include information about the donor’s medical history, education, appearance, interests and more.
Once the single patient selects their ideal sperm donor, a doctor at our Indianapolis fertility center helps the patient determine the fertility care for singles that’s best for their unique needs.
IUI with donor sperm. This simple fertility treatment involves the patient monitoring their ovulation and coming to our clinic the day after ovulation likely occurs. During this visit, the doctor uses a catheter to insert the donor sperm into the patient’s uterus.
IVF with donor sperm. IVF is one of the more involved fertility treatments that consists of the patient taking ovulation induction medications while receiving regular blood tests and ultrasounds at our clinic. When enough eggs mature, the doctor retrieves them during a short procedure. An embryologist then fertilizes the eggs with donor sperm, and the doctor transfers one of the resulting embryos into the patient’s uterus.

Fertility care for singles needing an egg donor and a gestational surrogate

Another important part of this process is the patient providing sperm. From there, our clinic guides the patient as well as their donor and surrogate through the next steps of IVF.
Egg donation cycle. The egg donor takes medications that cause multiple eggs to grow. When the doctor determines that the eggs have reached an ideal size, they retrieve them during a short procedure. The doctor then sends the eggs to the lab.
Fertilization and preimplantation genetic testing. Next, an embryologist fertilizes the donor eggs with the patient’s sperm. The embryologist can also test the resulting embryos for chromosomal abnormalities during this time.
Preparing the surrogate’s uterus. During the egg donation cycle the gestational surrogate takes progesterone to prepare the uterus for the embryo transfer.
Embryo transfer. The final step of this process involves the doctor transferring an embryo into the uterus of the gestational surrogate where it hopefully results in a healthy pregnancy.
