Donor Sperm IVF for Lesbians

Donor sperm IVF for lesbians can help women fulfill the dream of parenthood

Our Indianapolis fertility center helps many patients become parents through donor sperm IVF for lesbians. IVF, or in vitro fertilization, with donor sperm is especially helpful when patients cannot utilize donor sperm with IUI due to genetic or fertility challenges. IVF allows these patients to bypass many of these challenges and often results in a healthy pregnancy.

Finding a sperm donor who meets your requirements

One of the first steps of donor sperm IVF for lesbians is finding the right sperm donor. This process starts with our Indianapolis fertility center connecting patients with a sperm bank that works with high-quality donors.

Comprehensive donor screening. We only refer patients to sperm banks that carefully screen all potential sperm donors. Before donating sperm, the donor undergoes a blood and urine test that allows specialists to determine whether the donor has any genetic conditions, infectious diseases or other issues that could affect sperm health. A specialist assesses the donor’s family, medical and sexual history. Potential donors also receive a criminal background check.

Semen analysis. Another important part of sperm donor screening involves a semen analysis. This test provides information about the semen’s volume as well as the sperm’s concentration, motility and morphology. Reputable sperm banks only accept donors with high-quality sperm that will provide the best chance of pregnancy.

Reviewing sperm donor profiles. To ensure patients select a donor who meets their unique needs, we recommend patients first make a list of what they’re looking for in a donor. Patients can then review donor profiles that include photos of the donors, in addition to information about their education, occupation, hobbies and personality.

What to expect when utilizing donor sperm IVF for lesbians

Following the selection of the sperm donor, the patients can begin the IVF cycle. This cycle consists of various steps that often result in a positive pregnancy test.

Ovulation induction. The IVF cycle involves one of the patients taking ovulation induction medications that cause multiple eggs to grow. When enough eggs mature, the fertility doctor retrieves them during a short procedure.

Fertilization. After the doctor retrieves the eggs, they send them to the lab where an embryologist fertilizes them with donor sperm. If the patients would like to use preimplantation genetic testing, this will happen before the embryo transfer.

Embryo transfer. The last phase of donor sperm IVF for lesbians is the embryo transfer. This involves the fertility doctor transferring an embryo into the uterus of the patient who will carry the pregnancy. Ideally, the embryo implants in the uterus and results in a healthy pregnancy.
